Welcome to Grainly Farms
Welcome to the Grainly Farms. It is 480 acres of highly productive farmland in Merryweather County. Since inheriting this farmland from your great aunt Mae, you have learned that this land has always produced the best soybean crops in the area. However, there appears to be an issue with one of the three fields on the farm. What is happening?
You have a great responsibility. Mae expected the farm to stay in the family and she stated in her will that you are to continue to use the farm to create a profit for yourself and your family for many years to come. Mae rented much of the farm land to other farmers in the past ten years but she has also been very much involved with day-to-day operational decisions, something you expect to continue.
The farm has historically produced both corn and soybeans. About half of the land is dedicated to soybeans each growing season, as there is a strong local market for this commodity. A nearby facility buys the soybeans for soy-diesel production. The close proximity of this facility keeps transportation costs low and profits high.
Your first tasks as the new owner and operator of Mae's farm will be to:
- assess the current state of the soybean fields
- evaluate the fields and identify any potential problems
- determine the cause of any problem in the fields
Once you determine the cause of any problems that you discover, you will need to consider options for managing the problem.
