Latin Fiesta! on Iowa PBS
Watch Latin Fiesta!, a concert special featuring Andy William and The Nebraska All Stars recorded at the 2021 Iowa State Fair, on Iowa PBS Friday, October 8 at 8:30 p.m.
Originally from Havana, Cuba, Andy William now lives in Nebraska where he assembled a stellar cast of musicians to create a new Afro-Cuban jazz orchestra. Members of the group come from all over the world — Cuba, Panama, Venezuela, Mexico and the United States.
“The Iowa State Fair represents all that's great about Iowa, and now that includes celebrating the Latin population in Iowa and throughout the Midwest,” said Iowa PBS Senior Producer and Director Andrea Coyle. “Performances by bands like Andy William and The Nebraska All Stars demonstrate how understanding cultural differences can bring us together. Plus, it's just fun! Their music makes you want to grab a partner and salsa!”
Fronted by legendary Havana vocalist Onelio Perez, the group offers different styles of Cuban music and performs tributes to the Buena Vista Social Club of Cuba. In keeping with traditional Cuban music, the ensemble includes: a trombone, trumpet, saxophone, congas, bongos, drums with pails, piano, bass, violin and singers.
