VIP Watch Party featuring Mr. Tornado
Join Iowa PBS virtually on Tuesday, July 20 at 7 p.m. for a VIP Watch Party featuring Mr. Tornado, a film from American Experience. The program highlights Tetsuya Theodore “Ted” Fujita, a Japanese-American engineer turned meteorologist whose discovery of microbursts transformed aviation safety and saved untold numbers of lives.
The Super Outbreak of 1974 was one of the most intense tornado outbreaks on record and Dr. Fujita spent ten months studying the aftermath. Mr. Tornado is the remarkable story of the man whose groundbreaking work in research and applied science helped Americans prepare for and respond to dangerous weather phenomena.
After the program, Zach Sharpe, president of the Iowa Storm Chasing Network, will join the conversation live to discuss Iowa severe weather. Through the online shared media viewing platform, audience members can discuss the film and ask questions during the live discussion.
“I look forward to sharing some of my personal Iowa weather stories and information on how to be safe during severe weather,” said Sharpe. "Please ask any questions about Iowa storms at the event."
