Iowa PBS and Ballet Des Moines team up for a virtual family event
Join Iowa PBS and Ballet Des Moines virtually on Saturday, December 19 at 10:30 a.m. for a special family-friendly experience featuring Peter and the Wolf. After the 30 minute pre-recorded performance, a musician from the Belin Quartet and a ballet dancer from Ballet Des Moines will join the event live for an experience for the whole family. Little ones will learn about the instruments featured in the ballet and hear from a real ballet dancer!
“We are confident that this project with the Civic Music Association will not only enrich thousands of lives, from students to artists to young audiences across the country, but also invest in Des Moines’ arts sector in a meaningful way,” said Ballet Des Moines Executive Director Blaire Massa. “This multifaceted collaboration captured on the Iowa PBS stage speaks to the collective strength of Des Moines’ arts community and proves our region’s resilience and strength.”
Sergei Prokofiev wrote Peter and the Wolf decades ago to introduce children to different orchestra instruments. Ballet Des Moines, the Belin Quartet and woodwinds from the Des Moines Symphony team up for a world premiere performance marrying this famous symphonic fairytale with dance.
Peter and the Wolf is the featured performance in Iowa PBS’s upcoming program, Acts of Resilience | Courage. The program will premiere on statewide Iowa PBS on December 18 at 8:30 p.m. and rebroadcast December 20 at 1 p.m
