PBS KIDS at the Iowa State Fair

We’re imagining what PBS KIDS characters would do at our Great State Fair! The fair has everything from rides, foods, events and a whole lot of fun! We have four PBS KIDS characters to show you a little bit of everything! Curious George would choose to ride the Dragon Wagon, Cookie Monster couldn't resist a bucket of cookies from the Barksdale’s State Fair Cookies booth, Sid the Science Kid would have to check out the ISU Dairy Science Demos and Let’s Go Luna! Would visit the state fair’s grandstand.

The Dragon Wagon

If Curious George were to choose a ride at the fair we think he’d brave the Dragon Wagon. This fun and thrilling ride for kids features some hills and dips, perfect for making riders feel like they’re in a mystical land of knights and dragons. Children under 42” must be accompanied by an adult and any child over 60” can’t ride. Take a ride on the Dragon Wagon at this year's Iowa State Fair!

Curious George is an animated TV series that follows a sweet but curious monkey who can't help but run into trouble. George's friend, The Man in the Yellow Hat, tries very hard to care for George and is always saving the day. The show's themes are about learning, forgiveness and playful curiosity. Watch today on air or on the PBS KIDS app.

Barksdale’s State Fair Bucket of Cookies

Who loves cookies more than Cookie Monster? No one! This is why we think Cookie Monster’s first stop would be Barksdale’s State Fair booth. The cookies in a cup or bucket have been made by the Barksdale family since 1993. Their chocolate chip cookie recipe has been passed down from generation to generation and last year alone, Barksdale’s made over 2.4 million cookies for hungry fairgoers. We’re not sure if Cookie Monster would leave Barksdale’s and participate in any other fair activities, but we know he wouldn't want it any other way.

Cookie Monster is a part of the award-winning television series, Sesame Street. A longtime favorite of children and adults, Sesame Street bridges many cultural and educational gaps with a fun program. Big Bird, Bert and Ernie, Oscar the Grouch and Grover are just a few of the other characters involved in the show, set on a street full of valuable learning opportunities! Check out Sesame Street online and on Iowa PBS.

ISU Dairy Science Demos

Sid the Science Kid is always finding new things to explore wherever he goes. This is why we think he would love to visit the ISU Dairy Science Demonstrations. This year, the ISU Science Club had a trivia wheel for kids to spin and learn about dairy cows. There were interactive areas for kids to learn and gain a better understanding of our cows in Iowa. The highlight of this event was an opportunity to get an up close experience with a calf! Children are able to get a photo with one of the ISU Science Club’s cows. If you’d like a photo with the calf, you’ll have to pay a small donation of $3. Those $3 go directly towards ISU’s Science Club.

Sid the Science Kid is about a kid named Sid, who aspires to make a career for himself in stand-up comedy. He pitches a morning monologue to his stuffed animals that hinges on a burning question (such as "Why do bananas get brown spots?"). Sid then spends the rest of the day searching for the answer with his classmates. Check out Sid the Science Kid today on the PBS KIDS app.

Iowa State Fair Grandstand

The grandstand has been filled with live music and performances every day and we think Let’s Go Luna! would love to be a part of the fun! The grandstand is featuring many musical artists such as Foreigner, Jelly Roll, Greta Van Fleet, Kidz Bop, Thomas Rhett, Ne-Yo and Motley Crue. There’s even a special comedy show featuring Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias.

Let’s Go Luna! is an animated series that features Luna and her three friends, a wombat, a butterfly and a frog as they visit new places around the world with their parents’ traveling performance troupe. They explore the food, music, art and architecture of each place, exploring what makes them all unique. Watch Let’s Go Luna! today on air or through the PBS KIDS app!
