Studio 3 LIVE Season 3: Meet the First Wave of Artists

Get ready for another electrifying season of Studio 3 LIVE! The Iowa PBS crew is gearing up for the recording sessions of season 3, bringing an incredible lineup of musicians to our studio. 

With an intimate setting, high-energy performances, and exceptional production quality, Studio 3 LIVE offers music fans a front-row seat to unforgettable performances. The complete list of performers is published on the Studio 3 LIVE page, but here’s a closer look at the first few bands bringing their energy to this new season.

Socks in the Frying Pan

Hailing from County Clare, Ireland, Socks in the Frying Pan mixes vocals, accordion, guitar and fiddle to create a mesmerizing blend of traditional Irish music. In their performances, the trio blends masterful musicianship with a deep passion for Irish tradition, flawless harmonies and a lively dose of quick wit and banter.

TAE & The Neighborly

A Wisconsin-based soul-pop R&B group, TAE & The Neighborly found themselves playing music together in a very unconventional way. They were all neighbors in the same building who started playing and writing music together during the 2020 pandemic thanks to a shared passion for baking cakes. With soulful vocals and talented lyrics, the band calls their music “inspiration fuel for self lovin’ and world changin’.”

The Rubens

Australian alternative rock band The Rubens are known for their soulful sound and heartfelt lyrics. Formed in 2011, the group gained widespread recognition with their debut single My Gun. Their music blends raw vocals, rich instrumentation, and infectious melodies, earning them critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase.

Andrew Hoyt

Andrew Hoyt is an Iowa-based singer-songwriter who has shared the stage with renowned artists such as AJR. Known for his engaging live performances, Andrew's latest EP highlights his artistic evolution with a distinctive sound that fuses folk, pop and acoustic elements.

Katie and the Honky Tonks

Hailing from Waterloo, Iowa, Katie and the Honky Tonks blend classic honky tonk with powerhouse vocals and electrifying live performances. Led by Katie Sires, the self-proclaimed “Honky Tonk Dorks” received a Best Country Artist nomination at the Iowa Music Awards, with Iowa Public Radio praising their throwback sound. Their debut album coming this summer cements their place in the Midwest country scene, delivering timeless honky tonk made for dancing, storytelling and good company.

Your Smith

Your Smith, the musical moniker of Minneapolis-born Caroline Smith, blends indie pop, R&B and funk. Drawing inspiration from Fleetwood Mac and Lauryn Hill, she delivers infectious grooves, sharp lyricism, and effortlessly cool vocals. Whether on stage or in the studio, Your Smith crafts music that’s equal parts nostalgic and refreshingly modern.
