For nearly 50 years, Iowa's top dance athletes have grown this annual competition into one of the nation's most prestigious events of its kind. Welcome to the 2025 Iowa State Dance Team Championships.

[Andrea Dana] I'm Andrea Dana, Executive Director of the Iowa State Dance and Drill Team Association. This year, we're pleased to introduce a new category called The M.I.X.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Artistry and technique come together as nearly 5,000 high school and college dance athletes shine on the performance floor. I'm Stacie Horton Board President of the ISDTA. Countless hours of practice have been dedicated in preparation for this championship event.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The performances were judged by leaders in the dance industry from across the country. I'm Event Announcer Scott Enyart. Here now are highlights of all of the winning routines and busy backstage action in this exclusive presentation of the 2025 Iowa State Dance Team Championships.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] We begin the show with the Class I Pom champion Harris-Lake Park. Second place was Bishop Garrigan. Third place was West Bend-Mallard. We had a tie for fourth between Lone Tree and Belle Plaine. And in fifth place was Storm Lake St. Mary's.

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] It's great to start off with Pom, which is what Iowa is known for. And Harris-Lake Park is really bringing the energy and I'm loving their costuming and the coloring. It provides some really nice visual effects.

[Stacie Horton] I was going to mention that as well, Andrea. The white poms with the black and purple costuming really pops.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Our Pom category is the largest and most popular category. And Iowa is known for Pom. This year we had 160 routines over two days of competition. And just to give you some perspective, Class I are the smallest schools in the state, where Class XIV Pom that you'll see later in the show are the largest schools in the state.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] In Class II Pom, our champion was North Linn. Second place was Kingsley-Pierson. West Monona placed third. Baxter came in fourth. And in fifth place was Newell-Fonda.

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] North Linn choosing to go with a more traditional uniform for their costuming, looks very nice.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] And in Pom, judges are really looking for precision and that athleticism that they are portraying through their strong pom movements, dance movements and some incorporate turns and leaps. Here North Linn is doing a great job with arm movements and great transitions.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Our judges are using a 100-point score sheet focused on choreography, execution, degree of difficulty and general effect and showmanship.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Akron-Westfield earned first place in Class III Pom. Second place was Woodbury Central. Mount Ayr placed third. Fourth place was Newman Catholic. And St. Albert came in fifth.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Akron-Westfield starting their routine with some group work and some highlights.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] One thing I really noticed with Akron-Westfield is they have a lot of clean lines, meaning their arms, their body angles, everything is nice and clean and crisp.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Really utilizing the floor as well, moving those transitions across the floor and using all the space they can.

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Nice highlight here with the turn sequence.

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Great performance, Akron-Westfield.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] We move from Wells Fargo Arena over to Hy-Vee Hall to catch our champion in Class IV Pom, West Fork. Second place was Westwood. Alta-Aurelia placed third. Fourth place was North Mahaska. And South Hamilton placed fifth.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] These red and white poms look fantastic in this performance area.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] I think of words like power and technique and visual. This routine is full of all of those.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] I would include intensity. They worked really hard on this routine.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] What a fun routine to watch. It's very entertaining and difficult.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Fantastic performance.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] In Class V Pom, our champion was Waterloo Columbus Catholic. Lisbon placed second. Third place was Van Buren. Fourth place was Tri-Center. And in fifth place was Emmetsburg.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] I really love the clean, crisp look of their green and white uniforms with their white poms. All of their movements, again you'll hear us say this over and over, are so intentional and purposeful. These dancers are doing an amazing job.

[Andrea Dana] And they're doing a great job of layering, if you will, their choreography. So, they have dancers down on the ground doing choreography. They have dancers in the middle doing things. And in the back and up. It just adds to the visual appeal and the complexity of the choreography, which adds difficulty.

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] I love how in their transitions they are moving so strongly and purposefully.

[Andrea Dana] They're dancing through their transitions.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Up next we see Lisbon, who placed second in Class V Pom and earned a judge's choice award for this routine.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Each year our judges get to choose routines that they want to recognize as routines they enjoyed for entertainment value or have memorable moments throughout the routine that just stuck with the judge. And they want to recognize them. So, during our award ceremonies each evening, these are the last awards that we give and it is quite the honor to receive them. So, congratulations to Lisbon.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] In and throughout this routine they do a great job of group work, adding more visuals as well as in their transitions. Very well choreographed.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] We move back over to Wells Fargo Arena with our Class I Hip Hop champion, Baxter.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Second place was Graettinger-Terril-Ruthven Ayrshire. Third place was Montezuma. Springville placed fourth. And Ar-We-Va came in fifth.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] So much of hip hop is displaying that sassy personality and these girls are doing a great job.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] So, every year we have a popular song and I just have to say a shout out to Eminem. He came back pretty strong this year. There's quite a few Eminem songs, remixes, and it's super fun. And these dancers are just killing it on the floor.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Hip hop is also a very popular category for our dancers. It's so fun for them. We have nine classes of hip hop. And this is Class I, again our smallest schools in the state.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Classes of competition are determined by school size.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] In Class II Hip Hop our champion was St. Albert. Newman Catholic placed second. North Linn placed third. In fourth place was North Cedar. And in fifth place was Akron-Westfield.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] So here St. Albert has six on the floor, which is our minimum number of dancers that can compete on a team. So, you'll see different sizes of teams and that's okay. Six is the minimum and they're doing a great job of displaying their choreography.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Excellent routine!

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] West Fork earned top honors in Class III Hip Hop. Waterloo Columbus Catholic placed second. In third place was Central Decatur. Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn placed fourth. And Ridge View placed fifth.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] West Fork doing an amazing job of displaying those levels. Nice wide, strong levels. Movements nice and crisp. Tricks added in there too.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] It takes a lot of strength and athleticism to execute the tricks and most of the choreography that these dancers are doing in hip hop.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] I also appreciate the tempo changes that this routine has. There are some faster tempos, then it slows down, and that is hard to coordinate on a team.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] I think their choice of costuming with the black and white really adds to the cleanliness and lines of this routine.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Such a fun part here.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] In Class IV Hip Hop, our champion was Monticello. Second place was West Central Valley. OA-BCIG placed third. New Hampton placed fourth. And in fifth place was Cascade.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] This is a fun formation change here.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] They are hitting every move with intention and intensity.

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] I like the pop of color on the bottom of their shoes.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] So many transitions.

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Their showmanship is shining too. You can tell they're having a lot of fun with this routine.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] We now move into the Jazz category with our Class I champion Lone Tree. Second place was Harris-Lake Park. Glidden-Ralston placed third. Ar-We-Va came in fourth. And in fifth place was Winfield-Mt Union.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] As you can tell, we're back over in Hy-Vee Hall again and one of the things the dancers really appreciate about performing in Hy-Vee Hall is the intimacy and how close they are to those judges to interact with them.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] In jazz there is a lot of style that can come through and personality and they're doing a wonderful job. And great job with the lift.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Seamless dismount from that lift as well.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] In Class II Jazz, our champion was West Fork. North Linn placed second. In third place was St. Albert. Woodbury Central placed fourth. And in fifth place was West Monona.

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] This team really displaying so much confidence.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Beautiful turns in that transition.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Everything is fluid in this routine, yet powerful. Great technique here displayed by these four here in the front.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Beautiful highlight moment.

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Beautiful routine, West Fork!

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Panorama earned championship in Class III Jazz. Second place was Alburnett. Third place was Ridge View. Central Lyon placed fourth. And South Hamilton placed fifth.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] I really like the sassiness that Panorama is bringing to the floor here between their costuming, their facials, choreography. They're doing an awesome job.

[Scott Enyart] It's a fun, upbeat jazz performance.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Beautiful moment displaying her flexibility.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] They're really engaging the judges and the audience with their facials as they're dancing.

[Scott Enyart] This whole routine just moves well with the music.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Great visuals here doing opposite motions in a circle.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] In Class IV Jazz, our champion was Kuemper Catholic. Second place was Mid-Prairie. Eagle Grove came in third. Tipton placed fourth. And in fifth place was Clarion-Goldfield-Dows.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Love the originality of this. It's so adorable. It's unique. The costuming, the movements and the music. Really well done.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] And the performance really captivated you the whole time. You didn't want to look away or miss anything.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Very fun, stylized jazz.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Very creative group work here. It makes it very visual and keeps your attention everywhere. And then a fun transition back together as a team.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Great ripple.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Back at Wells Fargo Arena, we catch up with our champion in Class I Hoopla. This is Manson Northwest Webster. Second place was MFL MarMac. Heartley-Melvin-Sanborn placed third. And in fourth place was Storm Lake St. Mary's.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] We love hoopla in Iowa. It's definitely unique to us. And this team is rocking it out there on the floor with double-sided hoops and in the back you'll see there is another size of hoop that they will incorporate here in just a little bit.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] They do a nice job of including country-themed choreography throughout this performance as well as stylized dance.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Nice smooth transition in picking up those other hoops.

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] It's not a country theme without Cotton Eye Joe.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Our champion in Class II Hoopla was ADM. Second place was Sioux City West. Storm Lake placed third.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] This is such a bright and colorful performance by ADM.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Taking after the theme of the movie Rio.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] It's so sharp and clean and high energy and bright. So well done.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Fun little accent with their tails on the back too. I don't know if you noticed that.

[Andrea Dana] And feathers in their hair. Cool visual.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Great high energy throughout this performance. It matches the intensity and high level of energy in the music.

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] What a fun routine, ADM. Great job!

(music)

[Scott Enyart] We're now going to move into the Prop category with our Class I champion New Hampton. Second place was Graettinger-Terril-Ruthven Ayrshire. And in third place was Grundy Center.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] In our prop category, we focus on the manipulation of a prop while dancing. Here New Hampton is doing baseball theme with bats as their prop.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] And understand it is so difficult to clean a prop routine when things can go really wrong with a prop. But this team is handling it beautifully. Very clean.

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] And I really appreciate the music. It's not your traditional baseball-themed music that you would normally think of.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Super cool part here using those bats and creating really cool pictures in the center.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] I can just smile and smile at this routine. It is so bright and fun and cheerful.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Our Class II Prop champion was Knoxville. Second place was Marshalltown. And third place was Creston.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] I'm always amazed with the creative ideas that these teams come up with.

[Andrea Dana] Yes, kudos to those coaches and choreographers. You keep coming up with great ideas.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Lots of fun energy in this routine. And you can see it on the girls' faces.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] What a sweet routine, Knoxville!

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] We now move into the Color Guard category with our Class I champion Roland-Story. Second place was IKM-Manning. Third place was Aplington-Parkersburg. Louisa-Muscatine placed fourth. And in fifth place was Garner-Hayfield-Ventura.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Roland-Story also earned a judge's choice award for this performance.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] These color guard teams are really trying to blend their equipment with all of their movements and choreography.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Nice incorporation of rifle work in the front there. And then we transition into a new color of flag.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] As they're transitioning, moving throughout the space, they have to be so aware of where their teammates are.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] I love all of the beautiful unison work that Roland-Story is doing in their show.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Beautiful!

[Andrea Dana] Awesome!

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Our Class II Color Guard champion was Glenwood. Second place North Polk. Creston came in third. Oskaloosa placed fourth. And in fifth place was Anamosa.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Such an innovative routine.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Glenwood chose to really focus and highlight their rifle work, which adds to the difficulty of this performance.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] And our color guard teams kicked off the state championships for us on Wednesday in Hy-Vee Hall. We had over 30 color guard teams competing this year.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Glenwood is doing an amazing job with their energy level and their projection. They're doing also a great job of staying in character with their theme.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Nice fluid transition from rifle to flag.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Ankeny Centennial reigns as the Class III Color Guard champions. Second place was Marshalltown. Iowa City Liberty placed third. In fourth place was Dubuque Senior. And in fifth place Dowling Catholic. Ankeny Centennial also earned a judge's choice award for this unique performance.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] You can see that this team is utilizing a floor covering to enhance their performance.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Beautiful flag work.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] In October, we held our solo qualifier event hosted at Pella and Newton schools. And over the two days, 950 soloists were competing for a chance to advance to state. Throughout the program, we are featuring the encore performances of our state solo champions in each class.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Our Class I Color Guard Solo champion was Claire Behrens from IKM-Manning.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The Class II Color Guard Solo champion was Will Getter from Glenwood.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] In Class I Dance, our champion was Delaney Fessler-Arndorfer from Bishop Garrigan.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The Class II Dance Solo champion from West Fork was Kylin Johnson.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The Class III Dance Solo champion was Georgie Oedekoven from Central Lyon.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] And our Class IV Dance champion was Addisyn Leonard from West Central Valley.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Congratulations to Ellie Wiskus from Pella with her Beyond Limits performance.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] We now move into the new category this year at state, The M.I.X. Our Class I champion was West Fork.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Second place was Kuemper Catholic. MFL MarMac placed third. In fourth place was Van Buren. And in fifth place Western Christian. West Fork earned a judge's choice award for this routine.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] So, our new category, The M.I.X. It stands for music, interpretation, experiment. And it's the ultimate dance challenge showcasing a team's creativity using a combination of two to five styles. They get to choose between Pom, Jazz, Hip Hop, Kick and Military. And they are dancing to a song provided by ISDTA. So, you're going to hear this song three times.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] These teams are so innovative with The M.I.X. They choose choreography that they feel is their strength as a team.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] And West Fork interpreted the music by starting out with pom and in the middle incorporating hip hop choreography and then they wrapped it up with jazz. Awesome job, West Fork!

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] We move from Wells Fargo Arena over to Hy-Vee Hall for our Class VI Pom champion Pleasantville. Second place was Cascade. Missouri Valley placed third. In fourth place was Manson Northwest Webster. And Central Lyon placed fifth.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] This is a small but mighty team here. They are so sharp with only six dancers on the floor.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Love the hero cape incorporated as well.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Nice levels here.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Visit iowapbs.org to watch the 2025 Iowa State Dance Team Championships again. While you're there, check out the exclusive features and behind-the-scenes moments.

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] What a fun routine, Pleasantville. Awesome job!

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] In Class VII Pom, our champion was Monticello. Second place was West Central Valley. Mediapolis placed third. East Sac County came in fourth. And in fifth place was Alburnett.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Monticello moving with such power transitioning through all of their formations.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] I love the vocals. It gives such great energy to their performance and also feeds them as team members as they say their school initials. It's exciting for the audience and the performers.

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Those red poms just pop on the floor with those white costumes.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The Class VIII Pom champion was Davenport Assumption. Second place was Iowa Falls Alden. PCM came in third. Fourth place was Eagle Grove. And in fifth place Center Point-Urbana.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Davenport Assumption's movements are so intentional, so intense, so aggressive. Everything they are doing is with a purpose at a high level.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] This turn sequence is amazing!

(music)

[Andrea Dana] They're showing a great amount of technique.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] There are a lot of wow moments throughout this routine. It is so good.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] That was a fun visual there.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Impeccable timing.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Wahlert Catholic earned top honors in Class IX Pom. Second place was Clear Lake. Humboldt placed third. In fourth place was Grinnell. And in fifth place Harlan.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Unbelievable routine. Love all the accents, the creative pom movements.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] I also noticed in all pom categories such creative formations and movements across the floor.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] I like how the opposite sides contrast with their pom work.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Awesome accents and musicality here.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Really playing off those back beats.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Beautiful highlight!

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Xavier was crowned the champion in Class X Pom. Second place was Oskaloosa. Third place Ballard. Fourth place was Bishop Heelan. And in fifth place Keokuk.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] This team just moves across the floor so well and together.

[Andrea Dana] It's almost like they're gliding across the floor. Team aerials. Beautiful! Well done.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] I'm just amazed at how these teams just keep pushing themselves year after year. It just shows how much work they put in, in the summers and the off seasons to get ready for this moment on the floor.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] A lot of stamina is needed for this routine.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] We're going to slow things down a little bit as we move into our lyrical category with our Class I champion, Bellevue. Second place was Panorama. Lone Tree placed third. Riverside came in fourth. And in fifth place was Hinton.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] In lyrical, you'll see a lot of emotion through movement and the expression on their faces and the breath throughout the routines.

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Very dramatic.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Beautiful choice of costuming for this particular lyrical as well. Very classy clean.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Nice display of strength and power through this section.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Davenport Assumption earned first place in Class II Lyrical. Second place was Bondurant-Farrar. Third place North Polk. Oskaloosa came in fourth. And Monticello placed fifth.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Beautiful timing on that aerial.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The strength of movement in their musical interpretation is what helps Davenport Assumption really make this routine effective.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] They're doing a beautiful job of overexaggerating their power with their upper bodies.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Beautiful routine, Davenport Assumption.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Our Class III Lyrical champion was Waukee Northwest. Second place Des Moines Roosevelt. Ankeny Centennial placed third. Sioux City East placed fourth. And in fifth place was Dowling Catholic.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] This routine is exquisite.

[Andrea Dana] It's full of grace, yet powerful.

[Scott Enyart] And excellent technique.

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] All of the transitioning so elegant and beautiful and moving so smoothly across the floor. I am amazed year after year the amount of talent and how much it grows in the state.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Springville was top of the class in Class I Novelty. Second place was North Union. Third place was Westwood. Bellevue placed fourth. We had a tie for fifth between North Mahaska and Mount Ayr. I'm Scott Enyart along with Andrea Dana and Stacie Horton bringing you highlights of the 2025 Iowa State Dance Team Championships.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] So, in our novelty category, teams are to carry out a theme or a story. They can have props and backdrops but they don't have to.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Back in June, the ISDTA hosted our annual Coaches Conference in Des Moines. We had over 100 dance and color guard coaches in attendance. Coaches learned from industry leaders and sharpened up their coaching skills and grew their networks. New this year, we also welcomed nearly 200 dancers who took part in our first annual Dancer Leadership Summit.

[Andrea Dana] And that is an example of how we value providing tools and opportunities throughout the year to help grow our sport.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The Class II Novelty champion was Mediapolis. Second place was Central Decatur. Third place was South Central Calhoun. And in fourth place was Maple Valley-Anthon Oto Charter Oak Ute.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] And the cherry on top is they earned a judge's choice award for this cool routine.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] So creative with the music and their props and the bright colored aprons. It's a really fun routine and well done.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] And again, in novelty, dance is required. And they're doing a great job of it carrying out the theme.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] In several of these novelty routines, we need to give parents props for being so creative with their work.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The Class III Novelty champion was Mason City. Second place was Waverly-Shell Rock. Gilbert placed third. And in fourth place was Carlisle. Mason City cooked up a great performance here and earned a judge's choice award.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] I got the biggest kick out of this routine. I thought every detail was thought through between music, props, backdrops, costuming. And I think I could take some cooking lessons from Mason City.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The fun thing is the choreography matches all the music. And then the kids perform it so well.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Their facials are spot on.

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] You know, sometimes it's easy for dancers to get distracted in a novelty routine. It just shows you how much effort and time they put into a routine like this to overcome those obstacles.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] We now move into our Contemporary category with our Class I champion Panorama. Second place was West Central Valley. Harris-Lake Park placed third. Van Buren came in fourth.

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Not only is this a beautiful performance, but it's such an important message and learning that is being displayed and portrayed in this routine

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The champion in Class II Contemporary was Wahlert Catholic. Second place was Ballard. Newton came in third. And in fourth place was ADM.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] These contemporary routines really got me in the heart this year. I've never cried so much during a division in my life. These kids are so emotional when they perform. This music means a lot to them. They have a message they want to share with you.

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] They are definitely dancing their hearts out and just portraying all the emotion and displaying beautiful technique.

[Scott Enyart] It just shows how dance can be such a wonderful form of communication.

[Stacie Horton] Not only that but specifically with these lifts, look how much you even have to trust in your team, right?

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] And the Class III Contemporary champion was Waukee Northwest. Second place was Des Moines Roosevelt. Third place was Ankeny. West Des Moines Valley placed fourth. And Johnston came in fifth.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Such a strong and intense routine. It matches the lyrics, the beat, all of it. It's beautiful.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] This team is so good. I don't know if you notice, but they're so good about in those strong moments when they really want to accent a move, they really pop those chins up with power, or pop them down.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Such strong athletes on team.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The champion in the Lights category was Creston. Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn placed second. East Sac County came in third. And in fourth place was Western Christian.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Teams have fourteen different categories to choose from for our competition.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Lights is such a unique category because in these venues those lights go off and it is pitch black. So, these performers have to be so spatially aware of where their teammates are. So, it presents its own challenges.

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] You really do need to come in person to get the full effect of the Lights category. It's really neat to see.

(music)

(applause & cheering)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Oskaloosa had a knockout performance as they won the Coed category. Second place was Central Lee.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] It is such a joy to have these boys join these dancers on the floor at state. And Stacie and I had the pleasure of awarding the team trophies to the coed teams that competed right after they were done because these boys had to get back home for basketball games. So, it was so fun to have them there for this moment, have their moment of glory and then head back for their other sports.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] These boys are as committed and competitive with their dance performance as they are with their other sports.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] It's so much fun for them to be able to get out and perform as well. And it helps them appreciate all the hard work and dedication it takes to pull off a dance performance.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The Character Counts Team of the Year was Gilbert. The Character Counts Coach of the Year was Graham Sullivan from Newton.

[Andrea Dana] And our Friends of ISDTA this year were Chris Dana and Scott Enyart.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Giving back to communities is a large part of our dance team season and culture. This year, sixteen teams received the Lois Turnage Outstanding Community Service Award. Collectively, these teams put in 4,576 community service hours this past year. Congratulations!

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The Sportsmanship Awards were earned by Underwood Color Guard, Belle Plaine and LeMars. ISDTA values success in the classroom with 126 of the competing teams achieving academic honors. These are the top 15 academic teams achieving cumulative GPAs of 3.9 and 4.0.

[Scott Enyart] The Class V Dance Solo champion was Zach Hickethier from Iowa Falls-Alden.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The Class VI Dance Solo champion was Carsyn Gehl from Wahlert Catholic.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Olivia Neal from Xavier was crowned the champion in Class VII Dance.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] In Class VIII Dance our champion was Piper Klein from Boone.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Congratulations to Annie Schlarmann from Monticello with her Beyond Limits performance.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] We move back to the team competition with our champions in Class II of The M.I.X. This is Ballard. Second place was Grinnell. We had a tie for third between OA-BCIG and Knoxville. Sioux Center placed fourth. And in fifth place was Central Lee.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Again, this is our new category this year, the music interpretation experiment. Teams have the same song provided by ISDTA and they choose two of five genres to dance to.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Love that transition highlighting that lift in the back that moved across the floor.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] I am Scott Enyart along with Andrea Dana and Stacie Horton bringing you highlights of the 2025 Iowa State Dance Team Championships.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] A nice interpretation of The M.I.X. by Ballard.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] We now move into the Jazz category with our Class V champion Wahlert Catholic. Second place was Iowa Falls-Alden. Third place was Clear Lake. Centerville placed fourth. We had a tie for fifth between Knoxville and Humboldt.

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Wow!

[Stacie Horton] Adding that little vocal in there, the holler to really put an exclamation point on that motion.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] And the velocity of this turn sequence is amazing!

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] One of the things that makes this jazz performance unique is the strength of movement.

[Stacie Horton] This is a really good example too of completing your motions before you get into the next piece of choreography. They are very intentional with completing every motion.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Up next is Bondurant-Farrar, the champions in Class VI Jazz. Second place was Pella. Oskaloosa placed third. LeMars came in fourth. And in fifth place was Carroll. Bondurant-Farrar earned a judge's choice award for this fantastic performance.

[Andrea Dana] What a great strong start by Bondurant here.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] So much difficulty in the tricks and the lifts and the turns. What an awesome job!

[Stacie Horton] It's so well controlled.

[Scott Enyart] And unique groupings in their choreography as well.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Strong, intense jazz performance by Bondurant-Farrar.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Up next we see Iowa City Liberty, the champions in Class VII Jazz. Second place was Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln. Dowling Catholic placed third. Lewis Central placed fourth. And in fifth place was North Scott.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Over the course of the three-day state competition, competition takes place at Wells Fargo Arena as well as Hy-Vee Hall.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Here we see Iowa City Liberty with their championship jazz performance here at Wells Fargo Arena.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Seamless transitions by Iowa City Liberty. It's a beautiful and elegant performance.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] In this closeup you can especially see those breaths they are incorporating. Nice job dancers!

(music)

[Scott Enyart] And the champion in Class VIII Jazz was Linn-Mar. Second place was Southeast Polk. Pleasant Valley placed third. Fourth place was Cedar Rapids Kennedy. And in fifth place Waukee.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Wow! Unbelievable!

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] This choreography is so intricate and there is so much happening across the floor, yet it fits together so perfectly.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Up next is Manson Northwest Webster, the champions in Class I Military. Second place was Clayton Ridge. West Bend-Mallard placed third.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] And in our Military category, it is all about precision and visuals. And when I say precision, it's everything from head to toes to fingers and arms. And there's a lot of creative ways to do that.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Visit iowapbs.org to watch the 2025 Iowa State Dance Team Championships again. While you're there, check out the exclusive features and behind-the-scenes moments.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] They nailed it. Perfect.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Pella earned top honors in Class II Military. Second place was Williamsburg.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] I really love the fact that the back of this costuming was black. And as the team goes through different motions, you have a different appreciation of the moves in the choreography.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] There is such a strong tradition of excellence when it comes to military in Pella and they really had fun with this choreography where there's moments of smiling and then these moments where they're doing team headstands and showing strength and athleticism.

[Stacie Horton] I loved the split coming out of that.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Great precision by Pella.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Now we move into the Kick category with our Class I champions from Lisbon. Second place was Kingsley-Pierson. Third place Aplington-Parkersburg. And fourth place Gehlen Catholic. What a fun, creative performance by Lisbon here with this Harry Potter theme.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] And way to use those tempo changes to go right into those kicks on the crescendo.

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Different things that judges are looking for in Kick, those fingers are nice and tight up on the shoulders or behind the shoulders, however the team chooses to do it. Add that foot closure making sure you're coming to the closed position before and after each kick.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] And although they are hooked up at the arms, a great kicker is supporting their own weight. You're not actually relying on the person next to you.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Keokuk was crowned the champion in Class II Kick. Second place was Eagle Grove. We had a tie for third between Newton and Central Lee. And in fourth place was Humboldt.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] They're doing a great job of having similar kick heights across the board for this team, which is difficult, takes a lot of practice and strength in the legs as well as their core.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Very good unison work.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] That's a fun formation change.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The champion in Class III Kick was Southeast Polk. Second place was Davenport Central. And in third place Ankeny Centennial.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] What an absolutely classy performance by Southeast Polk.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Great technique, foot closure.

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] I always look forward to seeing their costuming and how they incorporate it with their music.

[Scott Enyart] What a smooth transition that was!

(music)

[Scott Enyart] And into the traditional kick line.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] You just have to love a good kick routine.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Our Senior Scholarship recipients this year were Addison Aleksiejczyk, Addison Wall, Cecelia Britten, Clare Tinsman, Delaney Anderson, Georgie Oedekoven, Hadley Harvey, Libby Trewin, Sietje Beukelman and Trey Gordon.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The Judge’s Choice Awards went home with Roland Story, Ankeny Centennial Color Guard, West Fork, Mediapolis, Lisbon, Western Dubuque, Mason City and Bondurant-Farrar.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The College Judge's Choice Awards were given out to Iowa Central Community College, Central College, St. Ambrose University and the University of Iowa.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The Be Bold Awards were earned by Creston Color Guard, Iowa Western Community College, Central College, Panorama, Springville, Waverly-=Shell Rock, Pella and Linn-Mar.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Up next is Iowa Central Community College, the champions in Community College Jazz. Second place was Iowa Western. And third place Kirkwood.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Love this unique version of this song too.

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] What an amazing program they have here at Iowa Central. It continues to grow every year. And the talent continues to increase as well. And one would think in a two-year school you may not receive that. And it's such an amazing experience for dancers wanting to continue their dance career.

[Stacie Horton] And then other colleges are blessed by receiving some of these athletes from these community colleges.

[Andrea Dana] After their two years.

[Stacie Horton] Right.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Beautiful technique, emotion.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Well done, Iowa Central.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The champion in Community College Hip Hop was Iowa Western. Second place was Iowa Central. Third place was Iowa Lakes. And in fourth place was North Iowa Area Community College. '

(music)

[Andrea Dana] I thoroughly enjoy this routine. The energy, the unique movements, they just really got into this hip hop and it was awesome!

[Stacie Horton] You could absolutely feel how much fun they were having.

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Huge shoutout to our college coaches for all the recruitment and time and effort that they are pouring into these dance athletes and their programs. Iowa is so unique and blessed to have so many dance programs in college.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Outstanding!

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Iowa Central Community College received a judge's choice award and second place with this performance.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] It's really neat to see how two difference colleges can be in the same hip hop category, have two different styles of music and still honor the hip hop tradition.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] I love that section.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Nice job, dancers!

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Iowa Central Community College earned first place in Community College Pom. Second place was Southwestern. Third place was Iowa Lakes. And Iowa Western came in fourth.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] They came out on the floor with these costumes and I was just blown away. Beautiful costumes. Love the tight, smaller poms.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] And it's a bright color of blue too.

[Stacie Horton] Yes.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Nice quick, smooth transitions here.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Great arm angles and good levels too.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Central College earned first place and a judge's choice award in NCAA Division III Jazz. Second place was Buena Vista. And in third place was Simpson.

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Coming to the ISDTA competition for colleges is a kickoff to their competition seasons that are really strong and heavy in January and February.

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Central College does a really nice job with all of their releases in this routine.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] In NCAA Division III Hip Hop, Central College earned top honors. Second place was Buena Vista. And Wartburg placed third.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Central College does a really nice job of having a stylized hip hop but making it super clean.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Such a fun routine.

[Stacie Horton] Look at the deep plie that they all get. So low. Their levels are amazing.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] It's really fun to see familiar faces out there on the floor too, dancers that were on this exact floor with their high school teams are now on the floor with their college teams. It's such a fun tradition in excellence and they're having a blast out there.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] And the champions in NCAA Division III Pom, Central College. Second place was Cornell College. Third place was Wartburg. And Buena Vista came in fourth.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] This music allows for a lot of accents in the choreography and they're nailing it.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Very fast paced, quick routine.

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] They do a great job of keeping their energy up throughout the entire routine.

[Andrea Dana] Great job, Central!

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Grandview University earned first place in NAIA Jazz. Second place was St. Ambrose. William Penn placed third. And in fourth place was Morningside.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Grandview really brought a lot of emotion to the floor throughout this performance.

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Such intricate choreography. So many different highlights going on. But it just all blends together like a story.

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] And what people don't know and they don't see are the hours of work and training these dancers put into these routines.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] What a beautiful routine by Grandview.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] St. Ambrose earned first place in NAIA Hip Hop. Second place was Graceland. And William Penn came in third. St. Ambrose earned a judge's choice award for this unique hip hop performance.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] St. Ambrose just has a power and strength about them in how they deliver and perform their routines. It's just really captivating.

[Andrea Dana] They are fierce.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] And I can't say it enough, you feel it when you're in person. You have to come and watch.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] And all of these colleges you're seeing on the screen now have participated in our annual College Combine, which is a recruitment event hosted in Des Moines at Grandview University. And we have over 200 high school dancers that come and dance and learn and showcase their skills to hopefully dance on college teams in the future.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] First place in NAIA Pom went home with St. Ambrose University. Second place was Grandview. Third place was Morningside. And William Penn placed fourth.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Really love that wide stance they came out with and that lean back ripple to the back. So strong. They just overexaggerate everything.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The unison in their pom work is impeccable throughout this routine.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] And all of these college teams spend their falls on the football fields, cheering on their teams, doing halftime performances and then go into their competition seasons. And they are full-time student athletes. It's impressive what they come up with.

[Stacie Horton] Absolutely.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The University of Iowa earned first place in NCAA Division I Jazz. Second place was the University of Northern Iowa. The University of Iowa earned a judge's choice award for this performance.

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] This is towards the beginning of their routine. They have already used up so much of the floor with their transitions.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Let's all just enjoy this turn sequence.

[Stacie Horton] The timing is amazing.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] They make even the simplest transitions look so powerful.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Iowa State University earned the championship in NCAA Division I Hip Hop.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] So much energy. Hard hitting. What a fun routine.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] And yes, the college kids like hip hop too. And you can see it on their faces.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] I love how Iowa State always grabs all those special musical moments.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] So fun.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The University of Iowa earned first place in NCAA Division I Pom. Second place was the University of Northern Iowa.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Now, this is a hard-hitting pom. Wow!

(music)

[Andrea Dana] The difficulty and complexity of this routine is unreal.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] The pace of the turns and the tricks. You've got to have such incredible control to complete those.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Again, the difficulty of the turns. Look where they chose to put their poms in that turn sequence, not using their arms. That's tough.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] And I want to personally thank these dancers and the college coaches for coming and sharing your amazing talent with our high school dancers and starting off your competition seasons with us. And I want to wish you the best of luck in 2025.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The Class IX Dance Solo champion was Katie Howard from Dallas Center-Grimes.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] The Class X Dance Solo champion was Trey Gordon from Davenport Central.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] In Class XI Dance our solo champion was Leah Loeffelholz from Waukee.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] And the Class XIII Dance Solo champion from Waukee Northwest was Addisyn Smith.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Congratulations to Taylor Crank from LeMars with her Beyond Limits performance.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] And now back to our high school team competition with the champions in Class III of The M.I.X. This is Muscatine. Second place was Newton. Mason City placed third. Marshalltown came in fourth. And in fifth place was Davenport West.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] What a fantastic performance here by Muscatine.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Such a fun routine in how they interpreted this music and the choreography that they're doing. And what I really like is how they are doing multiple genres at the same time.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Love that they incorporated military into their mix.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] So here we have kick and jazz going at the same time.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Waverly-Shell Rock was crowned the champion in Class XI Pom. Second place was North Polk. Third place was Lewis Central. Pella placed fourth. And in fifth place was Western Dubuque.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Waverly bringing the energy.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] You hear those vocals in there too where they're trying to energize their teammates.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] This team does a great job of covering the floor in their formation changes.

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Great facials.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Such a visual routine too. Two color poms in all their transitions. It's great.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Western Dubuque earned a judge's choice award in Class XI Pom. It's a very unique choice of music and choreography that helped make this a judge's choice award.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Visit iowapbs.org to watch the 2025 Iowa State Dance Team Championships again. While you're there, check out the exclusive features and behind-the-scenes moments.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Great job, Western Dubuque!

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] North Scott earned top honors in Class XII Pom. Second place was Iowa City Liberty. Norwalk came in third. Urbandale placed fourth. And in fifth place was Mason City.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Really liking the body suit with the pom performance.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] And this team is doing a great job of keeping up the pace of this routine. It's so high energy and quick.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] And a lot of their movements incorporate body angles that are really difficult to clean and keep unison with that many dancers on the floor. They're doing an excellent job.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] And here is Pleasant Valley, the champions in Class XIII Pom. Second place was Dowling Catholic. Davenport Central placed third. Dubuque Senior placed fourth. And in fifth place was Muscatine.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Love the different angles Pleasant Valley is using in their transitions. Sometimes facing the corner or the angle, just facing different directions, it just puts a different spin on a traditional pom.

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] That's so fun.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] You can just feel the energy over at Hy-Vee Hall here. They blew the roof off with this routine.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] And they're playing off that music with some slow movements and then quick, quick, quick.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Beautiful turns into a leap.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Linn-Mar earned first place in Class XIV Pom. Second place was Waukee Northwest. Ankeny Centennial placed third. Johnston came in fourth. And in fifth place was West Des Moines Valley.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] So much happening in this routine.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] So many intricate pom moves that match the music and everything is executed precisely.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Look at the level on those extended legs on those turns. All even. Beautiful.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Amazing job, Linn-Mar.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] And now back into the hip hop category with our champions in Class V. This is PCM. Second place was Mid-Prairie. Chariton placed third. In fourth place was Davis County. And in fifth place was Albia.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] PCM does a great job of maintaining high energy throughout this performance.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Nice exaggerated movements. Nice deep low second position.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] I love their choice of costuming too. Those pants are super fun.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Fun tricks and visuals.

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Nice strong isolations.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Davenport Assumption earned first place in Class VI Hip Hop. Second place was Clear Lake. Grinnell placed third. Sioux Center came in fourth. And in fifth place was Carroll.

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] I really like how they're using the floor. It adds a lot of dimension and layering to the choreography and the visual interest of the routine.

[Stacie Horton] The difficulty with that floor work too in getting up and down and up and down, that really exerts your energy. So, it adds to the difficulty level.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Fun routine, Davenport Assumption!

(music)

[Scott Enyart] First place in Class VII Hip Hop was Mason City. Second place was Xavier. Third place was Norwalk. We had a tie for fourth between Bondurant-Farrar and Newton. And in fifth place was Western Dubuque.

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Outstanding musicality in this choreography. Hitting all those dynamic moments in the music. It's so well done.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Their showmanship is incredible too.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Such a unique transition.

[Scott Enyart] And precise.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Great timing.

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Davenport Central earned top honors in Class VIII Hip Hop. Second place was Davenport North. Third place was Fort Dodge. Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln came in fourth. And in fifth place was Urbandale.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Strong, hard hitting hip hop performance here by Davenport Central.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] Wow!

(music)

[Scott Enyart] So much energy and so much personality coming out from all of the dancers on the floor here.

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Fun music changes, tempo changes and they're all right on it.

[Stacie Horton] There's nothing better than a hip hop clump.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] I enjoy it so much.

[Andrea Dana] And I think the dancers feed off it too.

[Stacie Horton] Absolutely.

(music)

(music)

[Scott Enyart] Johnston earned first place in Class IX Hip Hop. Second place was Southeast Polk. Waukee placed third. In fourth place was Des Moines Roosevelt. And Ankeny came in fifth.

(music)

[Stacie Horton] State is the highlight of the year for many of these teams. Some, however, will continue competing the next few months, while others will be performing these routines in front of their home crowds.

(music)

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] That's a fun transition.

(music)

(music)

[Andrea Dana] This is Andrea Dana along with Stacie Horton and Scott Enyart. Congratulations to all of this year's teams and soloists. You were absolutely incredible!

(music)

[Andrea Dana] Thank you for watching.
