Grandma Nebbe's Fugins

Ingredients

warm water
1 teaspoon sugar
1 package of yeast (1 Tablespoon)
5 cups flour
hot water
1 Tablespoon shortening
1/2 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 cup raisins
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon coriander -optional

Directions

Mix together 1/2 cup warm water, 1 teaspoon sugar and yeast packet in large mixing bowl. Set in warm oven (150 degrees or less) to rise until foamy (est. 10 minutes)

Add 2 1/2 cups warm water and 3 1/2 cups flour. Stir. Put back in warm oven until light and airy (est. 30 minutes)

Mix 1/4 cup hot water with a shortening until shortening is melted. mix that with 3/4 cup flour. Add more hot water slowly until it makes a paste. Add that paste to the dough mixture.

Add 1/2 cup sugar, eggs, raisins, salt, coriander to dough mixture. Mix. Add 1 1/2 cups flour to make dough stiff.

Let stand in warm oven until light and airy (est. 45 minutes).

Punch dough down and let rise again in oven (est. 30 minutes)Take small portions of dough and make into 1/4 sized balls. Put in hot grease or oil, like doughnuts.

Roll in sugar and best if eaten fresh.
