Iowa Science Phenomena Educator Workshop

5 - 7 p.m.
Wolfe Nature Center
2059 190th St, Red Oak, Iowa

Iowa Science Phenomena from Iowa PBS offers a growing collection of local standards-aligned phenomena, unique and relevant to the students and teachers of Iowa. If you are an educator, you are invited to join us in Red Oak on November 12 to contribute to this collection. Bring your laptop and enjoy provided refreshments for a casual, educators-only workshop. Facilitated by science education experts, you will:

  • Review and select phenomena captured earlier this fall at the Anderson Conservation Area and Hacklebarney Woods in Montgomery County.
  • Practice strategies to align selected phenomena to Iowa science standards.
  • Work alongside other educators to create standards-aligned classroom resources featuring the unique nature of southwest Iowa.
  • Have an opportunity to share your created resources with Iowa teachers and students through publication on the Iowa Science Phenomena website.

Honorariums Available for Educators

Thanks to generous support from the Iowa Conservation Education Coalition, we are able to offer a limited number of honorariums to support Iowa conservation educator attendance at this Iowa Science Phenomena educator workshop. If you are a classroom teacher, naturalist or other non-formal educator, AmeriCorps Service Member, a pre-service teacher/college student, or otherwise involved in engaging students in conservation education, you qualify. To receive the honorarium, you must register and attend the educator workshop. Following the workshop, you will be awarded one ICEC Membership (good through December 2025) and a $50 Amazon gift card. This event is free, but space in the educator-only workshop and honorariums are limited. Don’t delay and register today!
